If the exit polls are confirmed, the election result is obviously negative for SYRIZA – PS, but also for all the progressive forces, Koumundourou executives comment, after the announcement of the exit polls. The same executives add that “the result of the May elections had greatly discounted it. The time period was very short and it was extremely difficult to overturn such a large difference. In particular for SYRIZA – PS it was even more difficult, as it was not possible to have an electoral victory narrative as an alternative governing force to the ND.

The strengthening of the extreme right, which seems to have great influence in the new Parliament, is a VERY WORRYING SIGN, a sign of a conservative shift in Greek society.

The toxicity and irresponsibility of the ND during the pre-election period, in the issues of Thrace and the minority, resulted in the strengthening of the darkest forces of the extreme right. The rise of the extreme right is a dangerous development for our democracy and unfortunately the ND bears the main responsibility for it. Not only because, as it turned out, the legislative intervention for Kasidiaris turned out to be an empty letter, but also because the ND moved the field of confrontation to toxic issues by slipping into a harsh nationalist discourse.

It is important that we stood up, both we and the citizens who joined us and fought, in an unfavorable landscape, as after the result of the previous ballot, SYRIZA – PS was deprived of the narrative of victory.
The citizens gave us the mandate of the official opposition and as the main body of the progressive faction, we will fight from the next day as a strong opposition and stand by the citizens.”
