Now that the lights of the ND’s electoral victory have slowly faded with the completion of the constitutional “steps” for the formation of the government and the assumption of duties of its new members, today the starting thread of the government work is also cut. The curtain opens at the Maximos Palace where some Ministers will cross the threshold of the “government headquarters” for the first time and others will return to the familiar hall where, at 11 in the morning, the first Council of Ministers of the new ND government.

A celebratory meeting, as it is the first after the swearing in of government members, but at the same time decisive for the work and goals of the new four-year government, with the prime minister setting the tone and guidelines for how this government will proceed .

Files with the planning to the ministers

All the members of the Council of Ministers will receive a file that will have the planning of their ministries for four years and how the work and reforms will be scaled up in each sector, asking for speed and efficiency from its Ministers and repeating the exhortation for tough work but also to avoid any kind of conceit and arrogance, which could overshadow the intentions and the essence of their policies. The goal in any case is to promote all those policies that will solve citizens’ problems, improve their daily lives and create conditions for development, security and the elimination of inequalities.

And because “there is no time to waste, nor a blank check” as the Prime Minister emphasized from the first moment of the ND’s re-election to the government, the legislative initiatives will move quickly as from next week, the new Parliament will be sworn in and the new presidency will be elected and start the parliamentary procedures.

On Monday the swearing-in of the deputies, on Tuesday Plenary

More specifically, the swearing-in of the Members of Parliament is scheduled for the morning of Monday, July 3, and the following day, Tuesday, July 4, the Plenary will meet to elect the President of the Hellenic Parliament, with the Prime Minister having nominated Kostas Tassoulas for a second term , the election of the vice-presidents as well as the secretaries and deans of the parliament.

Next, the reading of the government’s program statements will begin, for which there are two scenarios, either to start on Thursday and end on Saturday, or on Friday and the three-day process to end on Sunday evening, with a vote of confidence in the new government .

When does the legislative work of the new government begin?

Following these, parliamentary sources estimated that at the end of the following week, it is possible to start the legislative work, which will be completed at the beginning of August.

The first bill that will be submitted to the Parliament as soon as it begins its work concerns the upgrading of the staff state and the structure of the public sector, the selection of staff persons and the administrations of public organizations and the better coordination of ministries. A bill by the Ministry of Finance will follow, which will include the implementation over a four-year period of all the financial commitments made by Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the pre-election period in order to ratify them legislatively, sending a clear message of credibility to the citizens.

The top goal remains the recovery of the investment level in the immediate period ahead, as the prime minister had mentioned during the pre-election period, which will give impetus and will mean the upgrading of the prospects of the Greek economy, but also with an impact on the everyday life of the citizens with the decompression which is expected to bring to the cost of borrowing.
