The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias appealed to citizens to avoid actions that could cause a fire
“The cooperation is the key to our quest for fire season and of course it makes our work effective which is difficult as the climate crisis is here”, said the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias after the inter-ministerial meeting under the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Mr. Kikilias made an appeal citizens to avoid actions that may cause a fire and to all support “frontline fighters who are the 14,000 firefighters, the 2,500 seasonal firefighters and the 4,000 volunteers”, adding that “fires exist, it’s a reality we face, there will be floods, severe weather phenomena will exist and our job is civil protection, to protect our fellow citizens, their property and the forests”.
The meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection was attended by, among others, the Minister of State, Akis Skertsos, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Thanasis Kontogeorgis, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Thodoris Livanios, the Deputy Ministers of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Triandopoulos and Evangelos Tournas, the general secretary of Civil Protection, Vassilis Papageorgiou and the head of the Fire Brigade, lieutenant general, Georgios Pournaras.
Then the prime minister, K. Mitsotakis went to National Coordinating Center for Business and Crisis Managementn and held a new meeting with the participation of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis as well as representatives of the Fire Brigade, the Armed Forces and ELAS.
