The head of Plefsis Eleftherias, Zoe Konstantopoulou, strongly criticized the MPs of the majority as well as the opposition who were absent from the “top parliamentary process” for the vote of confidence in the government, during her second hearing today in the Parliament.

As he characteristically said, the process was carried out “in a degraded manner and disproportionate to its seriousness”, while he characterized the “obvious absence of the ND’s KO” as a “sample of arrogance” and “old partisanship”.

“Even top ministers spoke to an almost empty House of Commons from the government and the overwhelming majority of the opposition. This is not consistent with the oath we took to serve the Constitution, the Republic and the Greek people. We do not serve the Democracy when the Parliament, instead of being a cradle of democratic functioning, turns into an empty theater where parallel monologues are delivered without anyone listening to anyone and no one answering to anyone”, he underlined.

Continuing, Mrs. Konstantopoulou proceeded to “codify” the reasons why Freedom Sailing does not intend to give a vote of confidence to the government.

In particular, he cited ten reasons, which include: the “presence-absence” of the majority of MPs in the process, policy-making without putting people and human well-being at the center, not mentioning the protection of the first home and over-indebted citizens, the non-promulgation of a policy on transport and railway safety, especially after the Tempe tragedy, the non-positioning of the government against the Freedom of Navigation proposal for the revision of three articles of the Constitution that have to do with the abolition of parliamentary and ministerial immunity and the appointment of the leadership of the Judiciary by the government, the government’s insistence on the repeal of Article 16, the government’s PNP for the employment of firefighters in order to cover the gaps in public health, the non-upgrading of civil protection in the midst of fire fighting period, the “opaque and unstated foreign policy” and finally the non-announcement of a convincing policy to eliminate all discrimination.

In closing, Mrs. Konstantopoulou noted that “positive positions” were also heard, such as the recovery of public control of EYDAP and EYATH and the policy for the recovery of the Parthenon Sculptures, stressing that it is not the “self-interest” of Freedom of Navigation to oppose everything, however asking at the same time by the government to listen to the “criticism and remarks” of the opposition.

Finally, he expressed the hope that in the new parliamentary term “racist, sexist and intolerant expressions” will be banned in the Parliament as it is not a “matter of freedom of speech” but a “basic principle of democracy and the democratic functioning of the Parliament”.
