The foreign minister George Gerapetritis met today at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels with the president of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister.
During the meeting, the minister presented the Greek positions on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, the importance of strengthening EU-Egypt relations, but also on Greek-Turkish relations, the day after the Vilnius Summit.
At the heart of the meeting with MEP Mr. McAllister was the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the need for Albania to comply with the rules of the rule of law and, related to this issue, the detention case of the elected mayor of Heimarra Freddy Beleri, as pointed out by diplomatic sources sources.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also raised the issue of Belleris’ detention at the meeting he had at the headquarters of the European Commission with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varcheli, during which he emphasized the importance of the immediate resolution of the issue, as the same sources underline.

The meeting also discussed the issues of enlargement, the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the prospects of Euro-Turkish relations after the Turkish elections, the Cyprus issue and aspects of the immigration issue.
