The search for those trapped under the debris of the bridge that collapsed earlier today, on the perimeter road of Patras, in the Bozaitika area, with 1 dead and 8 injured, continues.

As the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tachiaos, who is at the site, said a while ago on SKAI radio, the bridge was scheduled to be demolished and demolition work was being done at the site.

Tahiaos stated that “there is a question mark as to whether all the necessary safety measures were taken” adding that “these are matters that are investigated because it is clear that the safety of workers and people in general is of first priority.”

“There were third parties at the construction site who should not have been at the scene. Everyone who deals with public works should know that safety is the most important issue”, stressed the deputy minister.

Mr. Tachiaos said that EMAK’s investigations are continuing at the scene as usual when there are ruins, however he said that there are also some suspicions about any others trapped in the debris, which are being investigated.

The preliminary investigation has been undertaken by the Police Department of Patras.
