British singer and presenter Vince Hill passed away today at the age of 86.

Hill came to prominence in 1967 when he recorded a cover of Edelweiss, from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Melody of Happiness, which also entered the UK Albums Chart.

The family confirmed the sad news of his death in a statement on his Twitter account.

“Unfortunately we have to share news that none of us want to hear. We are very sorry to tell you that Vince has left us. He “passed” peacefully home after creating a musical legacy. His melodies will forever remain in our hearts,” his family wrote.
