Athens gave a harsh response to the provocative statements of the Croatian president Zoran Milanovic for the 101 hooligans of Dinamo Zagreb, clarifying that in Greece lcreates a rule of law.

To a journalist’s question, regarding the statements of the Croatian president, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stratos Efthymiou, clarified that “from at the first moment the Governments of Greece and Croatia are in communication for the management of the situation that has arisen after the tragic murder of the Greek fan”.


“Greece operates under the rule of law.
Respecting the fundamental rights of all those in temporary detention, the independent Greek Judiciary will judge the case unbiased and objective. And the Greek State always guarantees the observance of legality and integrity of those in penitentiaries” is pointed out.

“Any statements that they distort reality they do not offer a good service under the current conditions,” concluded the Greek official.

“The law is not respected”

With reference to the 101 Croatian hooligans who were sentenced to pre-trial detention for the murderous attack in New Philadelphia that resulted in the murder of Michalis Katsouris, the Croatian president defiantly stated, among other things, that: “The law is not respected. They treat these people like prisoners of war. If I were the prime minister, I would think about what I could do. It’s not simple. It is on the edge of the law of war. They are treated like prisoners.”

“The case of the Dinamo fans is in the hands of the Greek Justice”

The issue of the 101 Croatian hooligans of Dinamo Zagreb who have been remanded in custody in 16 Greek prisons was also mentioned by the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrei Plenkovic, As reported by ERT, contrary to the provocative statements of the country’s president Zoran Milanovic Plenkovic clarified that the case is in the hands of the Greek Justice.

Plenkovic called for the deportation of most of the hooligans arrested in the deadly attack in New Philadelphia.
