The relationship between Greece and India is called “strategy”. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi who is visiting Athens today agreed with a Joint Declaration on upgrading the Greek-Indian relationship to a relationship “Strategic Partnership” (Strategic Partnership), while they agreed to work towards expanding bilateral cooperation at the political levelin security and in the economy with the aim of doubling bilateral trade in the coming years.
The Joint Declaration reflects the joint understanding of Greece and India for a free, open and rules-based Mediterranean Sea and Indo-Pacific, “in accordance with the Law of the Sea and specifically with the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and with full respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and freedom of navigation for the benefit of international peace, stability and security”as indicated.

Earlier Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Agricultural Sector was signed between the two sideswhile during the next period of time an agreement on Mobility and Migration is expected to be finalizedwhich is already being processed and the importance of which the Prime Minister emphasized during the extended talks with the participation of the two delegations.
The two leaders discussed and agreed to deepen and intensify the synergies of the two countries in the fields of defense, shipping, science, technology, cyberspace, education, culture, tourism and agriculture.
Also, they exchanged views on regional and international issues. The Prime Minister underlined the role of Greece as a pillar of stability, peace and security in the region and as a bridge of cooperation between three continents.
Then, speaking at a lunch with representatives of Greek and Indian businesses and institutions, Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Modi, among others, emphasized:
Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Greece has left behind a very difficult period of crisis. We are going from record to record in terms of foreign direct investment. We are very interested in presenting the Greek success story to the Indian business community. This is just the beginning.
Opportunities exist in many sectors, not only in tourism, which is obvious. In industrial production, in infrastructure, in pharmaceuticals, where we have a strong presence, in food, in shipbuilding, in financial services, in technology, in digital payments.
Narendra Modi: I completely agree with you, Mr. Prime Minister, that there is great potential to promote our trade and economic relations and thank you for giving us the opportunity through this lunch for our business representatives, both Indian and Greek, to meet and discuss on this very important platform.
Today the world looks at the Indian economy with hope and confidence. India is the fifth largest economy in the world.
The strategic partnership between India and Greece will further strengthen our relations. Greece went through a difficult period and is now on the road to progress.
