Statement by Nikos Pappas, parliamentary representative of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance and candidate for the party’s president, regarding the reports of the former president of OSE, Kostas Spiliopoulos, that he had informed Mr. Mitsotakis about the situation on the railway.

The statement in detail

“Mr. Mitsotakis knew what was coming to Tempi three years ago. Who is served by the “recipe” for dismantling the railway denounced by the former president of the OSE?”

The former president and CEO of OSE, Kostas Spiliopoulos, with his public statement:

• Describes that the dismantling of the railroad, which led to the tragic Tempe accident, was a government choice. And he complains that “various interests” found “listening ears in the corridors of the ministry” of Mr. Karamanlis.

• It reveals that Mr. Mitsotakis, despite the government’s excuses at the time that he “didn’t know”, was fully aware of the condition of the railway three, at least, years before the accident. He had received a relevant letter from Mr. Spiliopoulos, which apparently went into the drawer, as, while he asked for a “renewal of confidence” directly from Maximou and intervention from Mr. Mitsotakis for the problems of the OSE, he finally resigned a few days later.

The former head of the OSE, in his secret letter, which he cites, accused Mr. Karamanlis of “undermining” his work and complained that his effort “spoilt the recipe and defied the expectations of some”.

Mr. Mitsotakis must respond to the complaints. Who does the “recipe” for dismantling the railway serve?

Unless he refutes Mr. Spiliopoulos.
