“The only irreversible damage is the loss of human life”, emphasized the Prime Minister from the podium in the Parliament – For Dadia: “Who took these people there and which are the NGOs that know?”
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis began his second speech with a comment on what was happening at the Spartans. As he said, we had seen a party without a leader, but today we also saw a leader without a party.
Watch live:
“You will allow me Mr. Famelle, I hope you will not take this as a personal reproach… Until now, after the elections, we knew that practically in the Parliament there is a party without a leader, today we found that there is a leader without a party. These very serious things said by the president of the Spartans should not be ignored and there will obviously be parliamentary repercussions for everything that was heard,” he said.
Referring to the fires, the Prime Minister emphasized that there is a strong cyclical nature in the Mediterranean countries, they are cyclical. “Some years are good, in terms of burned areas, and some are very bad. The same applies to Portugal, Spain, Croatia. In recent years, Greece has had three very bad years, in 2007, 2021 and this year.”
“If you naively believe that we can protect 70 million hectares of forest, then you are from another planet. And because I come from the planet Earth, our main concern is prioritization, quite simply because we have neither the resources nor the forces”, he added.
Addressing the president of SYRIZA, Mr. Mitsotakis said that in 2018 only 120,000 acres were burned, but 104 lives were also lost in Mati. Turning his attention to Zoei Konstantopoulou, the prime minister said that “these officers may be fighting today on the Dadia front and they hear you threatening to put them in prison”. And he added: “This is very dishonest and does not refer to the leader of a political party, but to something else.”
Referring to the migrants who lost their lives in the forest fire the? Dadias, Mr. Mitsotakis said: “Let’s ask ourselves who took them there and who are these NGOs that have a clear image?”.
