The goal of the state is to ensure that all those who have suffered damage are compensated immediately, whether they are farmers or breeders, but that the damage to the natural environment of Rhodes is restored as soon as possible, pointed out the Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the event for the candidacy of Giorgos Chatzimarkos for the position of Regional Governor of the South Aegean.

“Nature will heal the wounds of fire with our help and with the restoration works, anti-flood and anti-corrosion, to start immediately” pointed out the prime minister.

The State, he emphasized, through the framework of the state aid under the supervision of the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, Mr. Triandopoulos, will ensure that all those who have suffered damages are compensated immediately, whether they are farmers or breeders, either there are few, fortunately, residents of Rhodes who saw their houses and their properties destroyed” Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized.

“I want you to know that the next five years will be a five-year period in which the Region will have at its disposal very important financial tools to launch and complete very important projects, from the largest islands, from the largest island of Rhodes to the smaller islands that need a special care” said the prime minister, referring to the new and strengthened regional program, European NSRF resources, but also to the Special Development Program of the Public Investment Program, amounting to 170 millionwhich will be managed by the Region in the coming years.

In detail the greeting of K. Mitsotakis at the event of Mr. Chatzimarkos

“Mr. Regional Governor, Mr. incoming Regional Governor of the South Aegean, Mr. Mayor, Mr. incoming Mayor, ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues in the Government and in the Parliament, I am here today with you in Rhodes, which I love so much, for two reasons.

The first was to chair a broad meeting of government officials so that we can make sure that everything we have said about Rhodes healing from the great fire of July will be put into practice.

And I want to take this opportunity to once again say a special “thank you” to all the women of Rhodes and to all the men of Rhodes. Primarily to those who fought on the fiery front, but also to those who opened their homes and turned an environmental adventure into a great opportunity for Rhodes to further enhance its reputation as an extremely welcoming tourist destination. You made it. We managed not only to save the tourist season, but to be able today to have evidence that makes us believe that it will be even better than last year.

And this goal was achieved thanks to the help and support of all of you, the industry professionals, thanks to an excellent collaboration under the leadership of the Regional Governor and the Mayor with our own support, with the systematic promotion of Rhodes after the great fire abroad inside. We have every reason today on this very beautiful evening to be more optimistic, much more optimistic than we were a month ago.

Nature will heal the wounds of the fire with our help and with the restoration works, flood protection and corrosion protection, starting immediately. And of course, the State, through the framework of the state aid under the supervision of the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, Mr. Triandopoulos, will ensure that all those who have suffered damages are compensated immediately, whether they are farmers or breeders , or there are fortunately few of your fellow citizens who saw their homes and property destroyed.

I am here, however, also for a second reason and the second reason has to do with my undivided support for Giorgos Hatzimarkos. I did not choose by chance, George, to be here on the first day of this pre-election period, which begins for the municipal and self-governing elections in October.

As you know, friends, we have given a political party color to the self-governing elections, but the party’s choices have been made with strictly meritocratic criteria. You are lucky to have already experienced an excellent District Governor, who has left his mark not only here in Rhodes, not only in the Dodecanese, but in all the islands of the South Aegean.

A man with whom we have worked flawlessly as a Government, who manages the highly complex task of a large and diverse island region, with efficiency and total dedication to his cause.

I want you to know that the next five years will be one in which the Region will have at its disposal very important financial tools to launch and complete very important projects, from the largest islands, from the largest island of Rhodes to the most small islands that need special care.

I am referring to the new and strengthened regional program, European NSRF resources, but also to the Special Development Program of the Public Investment Program, as we call it, amounting to 170 million, which the Region will manage in the coming years.

George is the right man in the right position, he has drawn up an excellent ballot with representation from all the islands and we really support him not because we care – I take this for granted – that the South Aegean Region is blue, but because we primarily care that we can have people and teams – because here you lead an extremely effective team – who can work with the Government to serve our vision, our common development vision for the islands of the South Aegean, with accessibility, with development potentials, with environmental protection, with special protection of the smaller islands to which you know how much importance I attach.

Insularity is a wealth for our country. We have not always been able to serve her with the necessary consistency, but now the time has come to do so and George is the right person to do so. So ahead. Steady, bold, forward, am I saying that right? For the South Aegean which you deserve.

And in closing, let me put on another hat, there is a third reason why I am here today and that is to say a personal “thank you” now, as the President of New Democracy and as the newly elected Prime Minister, for the impressive percentage that the Dodecanese was given to New Democracy. I am deeply obliged to you and know that I will repay this trust in full.

Be well, good strength, good success.

Earlier, Kyriakos Mitsotakis walked through the central commercial streets of the island, accompanied by the Mayor of Rhodes, Antonis Kambourakis, and had the opportunity to talk with citizens and tourists”.
