The candidate for the presidency of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, visited burned areas of Evros on Monday (04/09).

The candidate president first visited the burnt forest of Makri as well as the Operations Center of the Fire Service.

He spoke with the Romanian and Spanish Canadair pilots who fought the fire together with their Greek colleagues, while he toured the city of Alexandroupolis but of course also the affected area of Dadia.

At the same time, he talked with fire victims of the area who lost their properties in the fire – people who are in despair, affected citizens who are forced to sleep in cars or warehouses (see related video).

Stefanos Kasselakis, after his tour of the burnt areas, made a short statement:

“The images I saw are indescribable. We are talking about an absolute disaster, the biggest fire disaster that has been recorded in the history of the EU. I have been talking lately about the “Greek dream”. Well, what has happened in Evros is the Greek nightmare. Over 930 thousand acres burned.”

“Today is the 17th day, finally with a recession, and the residents are still waiting for Mr. Mitsotakis at the foothills of the country’s borders. With communication tricks and “big words” fires are neither extinguished nor prevented. The State must practically stand by the victims, compensate, start rehabilitation and strengthen Civil Protection”.
