“We have to design and create the new NSS” emphasized Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistokleousspeaking at the conference on regional development, Olympia Forum IV, organized by the economic forum of Delphi and the newspaper “Patris”, at the premises of the International Olympic Academy, in Ancient Olympia.

As he added, “we will move on three axes” and continued:

“First in quality health services. It is something that we are called to build, because behind every axis and every title there is a lot that needs to be done.

The second is the effectiveness and efficiency of the National Health System, that is, whether these staff, whether these hospitals, can give us more, if we organize them better.

The third is to move to the new era, to digitization, where we are lagging behind the rest of the European countries as a SSY”.

Then, Marios Themistokleous, said that “the prime minister announced 10,000 recruitments of which 800 are in EKAB and there is even an agreement with the Ministry of the Interior, so that the 10,000 recruitments that are for the next four years will be front-loaded in 2024, that is to say let’s not have an equal distribution, but the vast majority of recruitment to be done in 2024.”

Regarding the building upgrade and equipment of the hospitals, the Deputy Minister of Health said that “thanks to the Recovery and Authenticity Fund, for the first time hospitals in our country are being renovated and modernized with a very large amount that exceeds 600 million euros for the structures of YOU”.

At the same time, he emphasized that “for the first time such a large amount of money is channeled towards the renovation of the building infrastructure and therefore the situation will improve a lot”.

Regarding the medical equipment, he said that “an effort is being made, so that we have a complete mapping, in order not to repeat the mistakes of the past, that is, to buy machines, without securing the necessary staff”.

At another point in his speech, Marios Themistokleous emphasized that “at the moment our country is at the European Union average, regarding the number of hospital beds and therefore there is no reason to close hospitals”, adding that “many sometimes the discussion about health in Greece is based on myths and clichés”.

Returning to digitization, he said that “thanks to the money from the Recovery and Resilience Fund we have the digital health file” adding that “we also have the very large project of hospital integration and digital readiness, with which all hospital systems will be integrated, so they can communicate with each other.”
