“We are working in this direction, we are talking to the doctors, the nurses, the staff, we are talking to the best scientists around the world, Greeks who are very interested in the National Health System of our country.”
“We have a lot of work ahead of us with the National Health System. That is, to modernize it, make it flexible, make it attractive to citizens and make it one of the best health systems in Europe. This is our commitment».
This was emphasized by the Minister of Health, Michalis Chrysochoidis, in statements he made today at noon, after the visits he made to the hospitals of Patras and added:
“In this direction we are working, we are talking with the doctors, with the nurses, the staff, we are talking with the best scientists around the world, Greeks who are very interested in the National Health System of our country”.
He also noted that “in the next period of time, other major changes will take place in the NHS, so that every day, there will be more and more a feeling of satisfaction with the services it offers».
Referring to the hospitals of Patras, he said that “the city and Western Greece are fortunate to have a very large university hospital, which is one of the main pillars of the National Health System in the country.” Also, he continued, “has a hospital that is one of the largest in the country, “Agios Andreas”, as well as the “Karamandanio” children’s hospital, which hosts and treats thousands of children every year».
At the same time, Michalis Chrysochoidis noted that “the two big hospitals of Patras, the University and “Agios Andreas”, are in a fairly good condition, we will enrich them with staff» and added:
“We will enrich the University hospital with several doctors, primarily university doctors, but also NHS doctors, while we will do the same for “Agios Andreas”».
As the Minister of Health specifically mentioned at this point, “we need nursing staff and these days we are hiring about 4,000, already the 2,000 names were published a few days ago and another 2,000 names will be published in November”.
He also said that “we plan to hire over 6,000 medical and nursing staff next year».
Continuing, he said that “we are reorganizing EKAB, and we announced a few days ago in the cabinet the creation, at the national level, of 17 units of increased care for the management and treatment of strokes”.
“All these initiatives”, as he underlined, “have one goal, namely a better NHS, which will be made available to our fellow citizens”.
