Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his US counterpart Anthony Blinken will have a telephone conversation tomorrow, Tuesday, amid tensions between the two countries over Ukraine, Moscow announced today.
“A face-to-face meeting (between Lavrov and Blinken) is not planned, a telephone conversation will take place on Tuesday,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was quoted as saying by Ria Novosti news agency.
Earlier, the Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin would respond to US and NATO proposals “when he deems it necessary”, without specifying a date at this time.
Washington and the North Atlantic Alliance responded last week to Moscow’s demands for legally binding security guarantees amid controversy over Ukraine’s bid to join NATO.
Putin said on Friday that (the proposals) did not meet Moscow’s main security requirements, but that Russia was ready to continue discussing them.
