PASOK issued an announcement to mark the 13th anniversary of the establishment of Clarity, stressing that it is an initiative which introduced for the first time in Greece the obligation to post acts and decisions of governmental and administrative bodies on the Internet, with the main objective of bringing maximum publicity of government policy and administrative action.

The announcement states:

“By law of the PASOK government for 13 years, DIAUGIA is the most basic means for transparency and open information of the citizens in the country.

The DIAUGIA program, which operated for the first time in October 2010, was created with the aim of publishing the decisions of government bodies and administration on the internet. The obligation to publish extends to government bodies, public sector bodies, Independent Authorities and Local Government Organisations.

Despite the significant progress achieved with TRANSPARENCY, we still need to go further in the direction of transparency. Therefore, we recommend:

  • Constitutionally Enshrined: We constitutionally enshrined the TRANSPARENCY program, further ensuring transparency.
  • Expansion of Transparency: We oblige all bodies and companies that manage public funds to publish their decisions in TRANSPARENCY.
  • Merit in Public Administration: Administrators of hospitals and public organizations are selected through an open international competition with a 5-year term.
  • Utilization of open data: We utilize DIAUGIAS data for the effective evaluation and improvement of public actions.

Our goal is to protect the public interest, ensure transparency and strengthen accountability at every level of government.”
