With an additional 100 police officers in manpower, as well as in equipment, such as a helicopter and aerial means of traffic surveillance, the Thessaloniki Traffic Directorate will be strengthened to deal with the city’s traffic problems, announced the Minister of Citizen Protection, Yiannis Oikonomou.

On Tuesday (03/10), Mr. Economou had a meeting, in Thessaloniki, with Greek Police Officers regarding the elevated highway (Fly Over) and the city’s traffic.

The meeting discussed the measures being launched, in order to limit the impact on the city’s traffic and to deal in the best way with issues that may arise with interventionswhich will be presented in detail in the near future so that citizens are informed.

At the meeting, it was agreed to continue communication with all the agencies involved in the implementation of the project in order to undertake the appropriate initiatives – within the scope of their responsibilities – that will allow the Traffic Police to play its role.

Mr. Economou underlined that the Government is launching important projects in the area of ​​Thessaloniki and more broadly in Northern Greece, which will improve the daily life of the citizens, however during their implementation they may cause any arrhythmias.

In this context, the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police are going to, within the scope of their responsibilities, make the necessary effort in order to alleviate any issues that arise as much as possible.

The meeting was attended by the General Secretary of Public Order, Mr. Manos Logothetis, the Chief of the Greek Police, Lt. General Lazaros Mavropoulos, the General Inspector of Northern Greece, Lt. General Spyridon Sklavos, the General Police Director of Thessaloniki, Mr. Christos Bouloumbasis and the Director of the Traffic Directorate Thessaloniki, Mrs. Paraskevi Papageorgopoulou.
