Mr. Voridis clarified that his reference, earlier, in the Parliament, to “Mr. Famellakis”, was made by mistake
I could not think of a better ending for SYRIZA than Kasselakis prevailingsaid Minister of State Makis Voridis in an interview on the main news bulletin of ERT.
In particular, regarding the election of Stefanos Kasselakis to the leadership of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, the Minister of State argued that it “signals the end of the Left, in the sense of a political and ideological bankruptcy. ‘People who have a path […] when they are finally defeated – and I’m talking about all the executives of SYRIZA who were defeated by a man who had no connection or reference to this area – it is obvious that it is the result of an ideological-political bankruptcy, a strategic defeat […] The truth is that even I couldn’t think of a better ending (ss of the Left).“, he added. He clarified that the nomination of St. Kasselakis in the presidency of SYRIZA, this “does not mean that he can mutate into something else, the people who vote for him have a certain identity”.
Invited, on the other hand, to comment on yesterday’s parallel, by the prime minister, of St. Kasselakis with the blank, the Minister of State emphasized that “the blank is blank, it is without content and so far we do not have any content in what Mr. Kasselakis is supposed to be cutting”. At this point, clarified that his reference, earlier, in the Parliament, to “Mr. Famellakis”, was made by mistake.
Asked, finally, about the dualism (one leader for the official opposition in society and another in the Parliament), he estimated that it is a difficulty for the parliamentary system. “I find it too difficult to be functional.” However, he emphatically noted in closing, “the problem will not be there, the problem is what the prime minister has identified, the lack of content, the vacuum, that in reality this particular person is in politics and therefore – to the extent that he represents SYRIZA – SYRIZA without any specific political content. This is the main problem that SYRIZA will have from now on”, he concluded
Mr. Voridis also referred to the crucial battle of the self-governing, and especially the regional elections, along with the corresponding dilemmas, as he said.
In detail, and after first noting that at the level of municipalities, and especially the smaller ones, more local criteria prevail, even with personal characteristics, he underlined that this is not the case in large municipalities and regions. “The regional self-governments, in the next period of time, will play a very crucial role in the way we will proceed developmentally. Large sums and strategic choices for the use of these sums. Beyond the purely administrative part – everything must be done quickly, in the right way, so that these sums are not lost – there is also an issue in which direction they will be placed. This is a deeply political issue”, M. Voridis pointed out at the beginning. In particular, he continued, “we must share a common understanding of the development of the country, otherwise they approach the priorities on the Left, otherwise we approach them.”
During the interview, after acknowledging that blue “rebels” are also arriving in a minority of regions, he repeated that “we also choose persons with whom tomorrow morning we will have a common understanding and we will be able to cooperate very well”. In conclusion, “the way the regional self-government will cooperate the next day, in the morning, with the central state is very important to get results, which will be recorded and translated into a benefit for the citizen”.
