Adonis Georgiadis: The goal is to transform Greece into a “brain gain” country
The “Rebrain Greece” digital platform of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security aspires to develop into a modern interconnection hub between the supply and demand of highly skilled workers.
With the passing of the new labor law 5053/2023, for the first time, a digital platform is created, under the name “Rebrain Greece”, for the development of a mechanism for strengthening the talents and connecting scientists-workers, who live inside and outside Greece, with jobs in highly skilled and specialized occupations offered by private sector companies operating in Greece.
This initiative of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, which attempts to deal with the difficulty of finding executives with specialized skills, which business representatives record every day, is aimed both at Greeks who have immigrated and work abroad and at those who live in Greece.
The aim is for businesses to be able to attract and retain talent already residing in Greece, but also to repatriate workers who left the country during the economic crisis.
The digital platform interoperates with the labor market needs diagnosis mechanism, the “ERGANI II” Information System, the Independent Public Revenue Authority and any other body deemed necessary for its more efficient operation.
The registration of qualifications and skills requested by businesses is carried out on the basis of the European classification for skills/competences, qualifications and occupations (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations – ESCO).
The use of the digital platform is easy to use and friendly for both businesses and prospective employees.
The process is simple and quick. Businesses select the specialties they are looking for from a list of 268 highly skilled occupations and, in turn, the prospective employee can submit his application for the job offer that interests him. Then, the company is informed by e-mail and an interview follows, which will decide, in combination with the candidate’s other qualifications, whether he will be hired or not.
Adonis Georgiadis in APE-MPE: The goal is to transform Greece into a “brain gain” country
“Our goal is to transform Greece into a “brain gain” country, to which our young people who left for abroad, during the memorial years, will return” states the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Adonis Georgiadis, to APE-MPE and emphasizes that these people, as workers abroad, developed further skills, learned more and saw how other economies work.
“If we could attract them back to Greece, then we would attract not only people who had left, but we would attract people who would be of a higher quality as a workforce. This, then, is a big bet for Greece. With the “Rebrain Greece” platform, I think we can make the beginning”, underlines Mr. Georgiadis.
Great interest
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the first samples are satisfactory. Indicatively, it is reported that, since the publication of the new labor law 5053/2023 in the Official Gazette, on September 27, 2023, the highly specialized jobs requested by companies in Greece amount to 32 and the employee applications have reached a total of 80, while several companies are rushing to be informed and express interest in this initiative.
Currently, through the digital platform, banking institutions, consulting firms, providing multiple services and large business groups operating mainly in the sectors of IT, industry, construction, etc. are already looking for staff, while the possibility to find the new branches and specialties that are emerging in the context of the green economy and employment also have the appropriate staff.
So far, the jobs offered are: engineers, information and communication technology professionals, finance professionals, professional service business managers, information and communication technology service managers, sales, marketing and public relations professional consultants, electrical engineers, economists, electrical technologists, practicing scientists and engineers, lawyers and electrical engineers.
As the head of the General Directorate of Labor Relations, Health & Safety at Work & Integration at Work, Konstantinos Agrapidas points out, with the effective interconnection of employees, who live inside and outside Greece, with jobs in highly skilled and specialized professions, innovation will be created, which will result in the competitiveness of the economy and businesses.
Finally, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security plans the communication strategy with targeted actions, to highlight the importance of the action in question for both businesses and prospective employees.
It is noted that all companies wishing to post the offered jobs they have, as well as all employees looking for work, can visit the online address https://platform.rebraingreece.gr/.
