The 42 years since the victory of PASOK, in the 1981 elections, the former prime minister, George Papandreou, is honoring with his postmentioning that Andreas Papandreou managed to unite the progressive and democratic forces of the country.

On October 18, 1981, PASOK won the elections with 48% and formed a government for the first time.

In fact, the former prime minister, in closing, appeals even today to the progressive forces “to unite, around a vision, against the clientelism and authoritarianism of the conservative faction”.

The entire post of Mr. Papandreou:

It was like today, October 18, 1981, when Andreas Papandreou and PASOK managed to unite and mobilize the non-privileged Greeks, the progressive and democratic forces of the country, around the proposals of September 3, bringing PASOK to the government and the people in power.
It was the day when history changes its course in Greece and Change becomes a reality.
The day when the welfare state begins to be built as a result of the struggles of our people.
The day when this people is reconciled and the effort of each and every one is recognized.
The day when health, education, justice, welfare become public goods accessible to all equally.
The day when women get the status and rights that belong to them.
The day when the citizens felt proud of the Greece that belonged to them.
The day Greece became an equal interlocutor of the countries that became independent and united.
The day when the people felt what democracy means and became a participant in the governance of their country.
It is time for the country’s progressive and democratic forces to rally again, around a vision, against the clientelism and authoritarianism of the conservative faction, guided by the sun that warmed our anxieties and dreams even then.
