The goal of SYRIZA is to remove gender discrimination in Family Law and to secure the right to marry for all couples
Marriage equality and the parental rights of same-sex couples were discussed at the meeting held by the competent Head of Department for Rights and Equality, Elena Akrita with the Stella Belia and Katerina Trimmipresident and member respectively of the Rainbow Families, Mr Vangelis Skoufacoordinator of the LGBTI+ group of SYRIZA-PS and the human rights lawyer Vasilis Sotiropoulos.
According to Koumoundourou’s information, at the meeting the need for immediate legalization of the marriage of same-sex couples was discussed at length, in order to remove unfavorable discrimination against families with LGBTQI+ parents. It was agreed “that the demand for marriage equality for all and full equality in the rights of their children is not only ripe, but absolutely urgent. The phenomenon of “invisible parents”, those parents in same-sex couples who are raising children, but their relationship with their children, as well as the related family and social rights, are invisible to the law must be immediately ended.”
Finally, Elena Akrita, promised that from the parliamentary group of SYRIZA-PS, “there will be initiatives to deal with the relevant discrimination based on the proposed law submitted by SYRIZA-PS in 2022 for the removal of gender discrimination in Family Law and securing the right to marry for all couples”.
