Sofia Vultepsi, Deputy Minister of Immigration, spoke to SKAI about the immigration flows in the country, regarding the images of tension in the last few days in Rhodes due to the increase of immigrants on the island.

As Manolis Androulakis, president of the island’s police officers’ union, complained to Atariastos, the situation in Rhodes, especially in the last quarter, is out of control, with a huge increase in immigration flows, around 6,500 people.

We cannot transfer them to the KYT of Kos and Leros because they are full and this intensifies the problem – the port and police services of the island cannot respond,” said Mr. Androulakis.

“Rhodes has been targeted since 2020, with the creation of a culture of trafficking, mainly of refugees from Syria through Turkey” said the deputy. Immigration.

“There has been pressure on refugee flows for a long time, which was not created by the Palestinian issue,” explained Sofia Vultepsi.

Regarding the problem of Rhodes, he stated that the immigrants will be transferred to Malakasa and other centers inland, where they will be identified.

There is also a plan to strengthen the Coast Guard.
