Her grief for her loss of the former President of the Republic, Christos Sartzetakis expressed the political and state leadership of the country.
The President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, in a statement, expressed her heartfelt condolences, referring to “a full-fledged official of Justice, who in difficult times for the country and democracy handled as an investigator the case of the murder of Lambraki with exemplary independence or “, paying, for this attitude, a heavy price in the years of the junta”. Referring to his term in the Presidency of the Republic, he stressed that “he honored the office with conscientiousness, dedication and a high sense of responsibility in the exercise of his duties.”
Respectively, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mittotakis praised his contribution in the period 1989-90, emphasizing that “his manipulations for the formation of a government were unequivocal”. The Prime Minister pointed out the attitude of Christos Sartzetakis in the 60’s in the Lambrakis case, while he stated that although ND did not support him in 1985, he cooperated with him respecting his constitutional role.
The former Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras, spoke about an important personality of public life, noting that he served his country with integrity, from all positions. “His legacy is the strong, militant and non-negotiable defense of our national positions, especially in the issue of Macedonia”, he noted characteristically.
The loss of the former President of the Republic was also mentioned by Alexis Tsipras in a post on Facebook. “Christos Sartzetakis was an emblematic judge, who personified the independence of the Judiciary throughout his career, with the culminating moment being the assassination of Grigoris Lambrakis by the parastate of the Right. “He paid dearly for his judicial integrity through prosecutions and imprisonment during the junta,” the SYRIZA president stressed.
For his part, the president of KINAL, referred to the struggles of the late Christos Sartzetakis for Democracy and Justice, noting that “he was a patriot who consistently served the public interest, Justice and Democracy. His decisive contribution as an investigator in the much-publicized trial that revealed the culprits of the murder of Grigoris Lambrakis and the role of the parastate in post-war Greece, went down in history. “He fought for his democratic beliefs, was persecuted and imprisoned for them by the junta.”
