We are alert and have intensify safeguarding measures on obvious targets in Greece, the Minister of Citizen Protection stated in the Parliament, Giannis Oikonomouon the occasion of the developments in Gaza.

Mr. Economou said that it is perfectly normal for all of us to be worried about what is happening after the terrorist attack by Hamas and the war going on in Gaza, and, as far as our country is concerned, we have intensified the measures from the first moment custody to possible, to obvious targets, Greeks and foreigners, whether it concerns Israeli targets, whether it concerns Palestinian targets, or concerns places where too many people move.

As pointed out by the Minister of Citizen Protection, “we have increased visible policing, beyond guarding, around all of these (sites) and obviously we have our radars and antennas open, our information networks activated, to collect every critical piece of information, every stimulus that will proactively lead us to prevent things that no one wants us to experience in our country.

“Obviously the situation is difficult, not only for Athens, not only for Greece, but for the whole of Europe. We are obliged by the development of things, to be alert, to have our operational actions intensified and updated, but this is quite far from saying that we are in a state of panic. We have our minds. We take our measures calmly, with determination and with professionalism” said Mr. Economou

The statement of Mr. Economos was made in the context of the parliamentary audit, on the occasion of a discussion of a topical question of the member of K.O. “Spartans” Ath. Chalkia, on the subject: “Armed attack on the Holy Church of Agios Panteleimon”. Elaborating on his question, Mr. Chalkias had expressed his concern about the activity of Islamic fundamentalists in Greece.
