In his interview on the Politico podcast, the Prime Minister pointed out: “over the days we have expressed increased concern about the tragedy of innocent civilians and the horrifying images from Gaza. And I think that while we recognize that Israel has the right to defend itself, how it does so is important. It is of particular importance, as the Prime Minister emphasized.
“That’s why we were on the front line – when I say ‘we’, I’m referring to Greece –in terms of recognizing the need for one humanitarian pause in order to provide humanitarian aid to Gazato facilitate hostage negotiations and to allow the people currently in Gaza who want and are able to leave, to do so in safe conditions”.
The Prime Minister had a meeting this morning with the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohamed Ibrahim Stageh.
During the meeting, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip was discussed. The Prime Minister repeated it his growing concern over civilian casualties and underlined the need for humanitarian pauses to ensure a steady flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The Prime Minister repeated it readiness of Greece to assist with humanitarian aid, as well as that Greece is in contact with the Republic of Cyprus and the partners involved on the possibility of creating a humanitarian sea corridor for the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Hamas is a terrorist organization and that it does not represent the Palestinian people. He reiterated that the only legal representative of the Palestinian people is the Palestinian Authority and emphasized Greece’s long-standing support for the two-state solution.
A public consultation was held Bill of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance for transparency in debt managementcompetition in the banking system and protection for the truly vulnerable and with which Directive 2021/2167 is integrated into the Greek legal order.
The provisions of the bill move along five axes:
Obligations of transparency, information and respect for debtors’ rights are established for servicers.
2. Protection is extended to the truly vulnerable.
3. The arrangements for the extrajudicial mechanism are modernized and improved.
4. Regulations are introduced that enhance competition, such as the granting of loans by non-banking entities.
5. Transactions through the direct payment system (IRIS) are expanded.
Basic provisions of the bill include:
the obligation for servicers to provide through a special digital platform personalized and detailed information to debtorsfor the amount of the debt, the payment history, the installments, the interest rate of the arrangement, etc.
The proposal to restructure the debt of vulnerable debtorsas derived from the application of the out-of-court calculation tool, it will be automatically and compulsorily accepted by all creditors, i.e. the banks and the State.
The improvement of the algorithm from which the amount of the debt write-off and, by extension, the amount of the debt that is regulated through the out-of-court settlement, for all debtors who have secured loans and not only the vulnerable ones. Specifically the amount of regulated debt from secured loans is reduced by up to 28% compared to the existing situation.

The amount of compensation per product will be identical to that of Thessaly, while those who were not obliged to be insured by ELGA will receive compensation through the Agricultural Reserve.
Already, yesterday, ELGA credited 2,035 beneficiary breeders and beekeepers with 16,500,000 euros, as compensation advances for the loss of livestock from the Daniel disaster. And in the case of Evros, the non-disposal of compensations for those affected will apply, while Measure 5.2 will be activated for free replacement of the lost livestock and reconstruction – also free – of stable facilities that were operating legally.
In addition, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis, the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Lefteris Avgenakis and the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Christos Triandopoulos, announced favorable arrangements for the stream of farmers in Thessaly.
Specifically, a regulation is being created which will contain a two-year grace period and then a five-year regulation of the obligations that exist in the rural stream for flood victims, with zero interest.
The obligations that will be regulated concern flood-affected farmers and their consumption from May 1 to September 30, 2023, plus any overdue debts that existed for these farmers.
The Government continues to support in every way our fellow citizens who were affected by the unprecedented floods. That is why, in the framework of the plan to support and restore the regions in Thessaly, in addition to the horizontal measures of state aid, we also activate targeted measures where necessary.
They continue interventions to address introduced accuracy. As announced by the Ministry of Development, from the beginning of 2023 until November 3, 2023, 19,557 inspections have been carried out by DIMEA. 1,521 violations have been established and fines of 6,904,032 have been imposed and 1,299 of them, amounting to 4,348,762 euros, have been paid or confirmed by the competent authorities.
In the initiative for the permanent price reduction we already have 644 products from 35 main categories (fresh milk, detergents, all bleaches, jams, sugar, cereals, yogurt, cold cuts, rice) while 52 companies participate in the initiative. The government’s goal is for the codes to now reach 1,000, after the first target of 500 was exceeded.
At the same time, the ceiling on the profit margin was extended until the end of 2023 to basic necessities for the Greek family basket, such as food, cleaning supplies, fuel and school supplies. Greece is the only country in Europe that has taken this innovative measure, while the “Household Basket” has also been extended until the end of 2023.
The “Students’ Basket” which offered the Greek family the possibility to buy the necessary products for the school year at affordable prices.
Market pass which for 9 months supported the income – mainly of the weakest households – and absorbed much of the increase in food inflation. It continues until the end of the year for Thessaly and Evros.
Upgraded e-katanalotis Platform: through which consumers can easily and quickly find the cheapest products near where they are
Transparency on prices of fruit and vegetables: The large supermarkets announce to the Ministry of Development on a weekly basis the retail prices of fruits and vegetables for the best possible information of consumers.
And of course the strengthening of disposable income with permanent measures. These reforms will remain, for the benefit of society, even when accuracy recedes.
As both the Minister and the Prime Minister have emphasized the battle to deal with imported precision is ongoing and not dealt with at the push of a button. The set of all these interventions each has its own separate importance, the main one being the increase in the disposable income of all citizens, which the government is gradually putting into practice with its legislative initiatives.
