An internal referendum is called “at the national level, at the request of 15% of the members who have fulfilled their financial obligations or by the absolute majority of the members of the KE”
Article 24 of the SYRIZA statute stipulates the following for internal referenda:
“1. Serious issues of the politics and operation of SYRIZA-PS can be dealt with by appealing to the will of its members, with the institution of an internal referendum on the basis of alternative proposals. In the decision announcing an internal referendum, the participation of the friends of SYRIZA-PS at the corresponding level can be foreseen.
2. An internal referendum is called:
(a) at the national level, at the request of 15% of the members who have fulfilled their financial obligations or by the absolute majority of the members of the KE.
(b) at the regional level, at the request of 15% of the members of the corresponding geographical level who have fulfilled their financial obligations or by the absolute majority of the members of the PSE. The referendum can only concern regional policy issues. For its intention to organize a regional referendum, the PSE informs the KE. If the KE considers that the importance of an issue exceeds the limits of the specific region, it can cancel the holding of the referendum or re-announce it with other conditions, at the national level or at the level of several regions.
3. Referendum decisions are binding for the party at the respective level, as long as 50%+1 of those entitled to vote participate in them.”
