A different day dawns for the “residents” of the “leftist apartment building”, despite the strong “shocks”. In SYRIZA, after the withdrawal of the Ahtsioglu group, the party’s leadership is making its own plans for an exit to society, away from introversion, despite individual internal party “objections”, while those who left are turning their attention to the new Parliamentary Group they will form in the context of the 2024 budget debate, with the ultimate goal of establishing a new party that will articulate a strong argument in the European elections.

“To surrender their seats”

The leadership of SYRIZA was, however, clear for those who left: they are asking to hand their seats back to SYRIZA, as they did with Mr. Tsakalotos and Ms. Perkas. They are committed, say sources close to the leadership, but they cite an additional reason: Because the election was by list.

“What everyone can conclude is that the only disagreement of those who are leaving the party today is the disagreement with the will of the base. Their refusal to accept the result of the internal party elections, i.e. the choice of the tens of thousands of SYRIZA-PS members who democratically elected Stefanos Kasselakis as party president. This is a clearly anti-democratic attitude, which started already the day after the elections”, it is emphasized.

“We will do no favors either to those who dream of a left-wing bracket, or to those who are on strike for the restoration of a pseudo-bipartisanship, with the cooperation of various “prothyms”, it is characteristically stated.

The background to the departures

Regarding the background of the resignations, yesterday the number of MPs increased to nine. “New opposition” within SYRIZA?
