PASOK states that it expects to see institutionally and officially, and not through announcements, the procedural guarantees that accompany the proposal to adopt the postal vote
PASOK is in favor of postal voting to facilitate the voting right of Greeks abroadas stated in a statement, however, criticizing Mr. Mitsotakis for not informing the parties before the announcementspeaking of backbiting and surprise that do not show a willingness to consent on the part of the government.
The entire PASOK announcement:
On July, Mr. Mitsotakis was speaking from the floor of the Greek Parliament on the issue of postal voting that “We will certainly not be ready before the European elections for such a stepbut if we find that there is a willingness from parties and we can reach 200 votes, we are ready on a technical level to start this discussion and, why not, before the next national elections to complete it”.
Denying himself and without any prior discussion with the parties and the Greek people, today he presented to the Council of Ministers even the electoral files and the ballots, which will be used in the next European elections.
And all this while until a few days ago the government leaked to the mass media its plan to establish a system of constituencies in the European elections.
The palinades and surprises on such a sensitive issue prove that the government is in no mood to consent.
PASOK-Movement for Change expects to see institutionally and officially and not through announcements the procedural guarantees accompanying the proposal to adopt the postal votey but also the categories of voters it will concern.
From our side, we have demonstrated in practice a willingness to consent with our positive vote on the bill to facilitate the electoral right of Greeks abroad.
For us participation in democracy is not a matter of announcementsmicropolitics or fireworks but one of the most critical institutional issues of the state’s operation and should be approached as such.
