Interministerial meeting under him Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled for today, Saturday at 11 a.m. following the incidents that occurred at the Olympiakos – Panathinaikos volleyball match on Thursday night that resulted in the serious injury of the 31-year-old police officer from a naval flare who continues to fight for his life.

The government is concerned about this and is expected to put on the table all the scenarios for the possible measureseven the most strict, and with this intention many of the participants will go to Maximos, characteristically commented government sources to SKAI.

Yesterday, speaking to the political editors, the government representative Pavlos Marinakis explained that the perpetrators of all these horrible crimes have nothing to do with sports and the thousands of fans who want to go to the stadium. In this context, Mr. Marinakis clarified that “the government has no illusions that the problem will be solved by magic. With the change of the Criminal Code and our stance on the implementation of the law, we will fight this battle with every institutional weapon until the end.”

Intensive investigations to find the hooligans

At the same time, EL.AS continues intensive investigations to identify the hooligans who attacked the MAT platoon in Rentis, specifically the perpetrator of the murderous attack on the policeman. The 31-year-old policeman is fighting for his life at the General State Police of Nice, sedated and intubated.
Fingerprints and DNA were taken from half of those arrested, as well as a check for traces of gunpowder on hands and clothes to identify the hooligan who fired the flare with a pistol. About 200 have been released since midday. Among the total of 424 who were brought from the stadium, after the wild incidents, according to SKAI information, 25 are also flagged for hooligan attacks. It is estimated by police sources that the perpetrators of the murderous attack are among those arrested.

Among the findings of the police is a folding knife found on the field, while the flare pistol has not been found. However, fingerprints have been found on the knife and will be identified.

The security has filed a case against unknown persons in this case file, which concerns serious crimes, states that the 424 brought in have been examined as suspects, with ELAS focusing its attention on 150 people of them for participation in the attacks on the MAT squad. These are people known to security and services dealing with fan violence issues for participating in incidents. 25 out of 150 are marked.

Faulty checks

As far as the Olympiakos – Panathinaikos match at the closed “Melina Mercouri” was concerned, it had been characterized as high risk, and for this reason, the MAT squad was not exactly outside the stadium, but 800 meters away in order not to provoke. Nevertheless, the hooligans came out of the field, spotted the platoon, and started attacking it. Either they had the munitions with them while on the field or they had hidden them just outside the field. In any case, the munitions were not detected during the controls that preceded the confrontation. There are no security cameras inside the stadium, except for the ERT 3 video that broadcasted the match, and since it is an amateur league there is no obligation of cameras. Footage has been found from a camera outside the stadium which has not helped.
