“The government and its new Budget are moving in a relaxed atmosphere. Business as usual. Why; Perhaps because they are happy with their investment grade or political dominance, but they are unaware that if we continue like this, we are sailing with mathematical precision towards an iceberg».

This was characteristically emphasized by PASOK-KINAL’s special buyer, Pavlos Geroulanos, during the debate in the Plenary of the Parliament, of the 2024 budget.

Mr Geroulanos accused the ND government that “its logic is the absolute imposition of the needs of the economy on the needs of society”, and added that “all it cares about is that they get the credit of Europe, to be better from their opponents, once every four years.”

“Huge chapters of the citizen’s daily life are now outside her radar, they do not concern the future of the country, but they are annoying centers of cost. For this it needs a government that understands that it cannot leave both the country’s dynamic growth and bankruptcies to a conservative banking system which is still licking the wounds of its own bankruptcy and deals only with adults”, he argued.

As he said, “1.5 billion is missing from the Public Investment Program this year, 1 billion less is the absorption of the Recovery Fund, 4.5 billion are the stagnant resources of “Greece 2.0″ and 21 billion are what we have to absorb, until in 2026”.

“Almost a billion a month. But these are not accidents. They are the results of political choices of a government that applies yesterday’s models, when the country is faced with the challenges of today and tomorrow”, he pointed out and added:

“This context and this situation require a budget of upheavals. Real progressive reforms that radically change the country’s productive model, expanding the country’s productive base, redistributing wealth, bringing new players into the game, making small businesses a key part of strategic planning and not treating them as enemies. It requires a budget with social empathy, which perceives Education and Health, not as cost centers, but as a safety net.

A budget, that is, that will build a truly “patriotic” economy. We, however, holding the gospel of the free market in hand, leave Greek businesses at their mercy.”

“Would we fix it with a budget or in four years?” asked Mr. Geroulanos to answer “no, of course, but a budget is a starting point and an opportunity” and to add: “And we are pressuring you, so that you don’t miss the opportunity. Because the world is simpler when you look at numbers and not people. Now is the time to think, plan and implement soberly, – something the country has not been able to do for a long time – with today and tomorrow in mind. Because if we don’t and one of the things I’ve described goes wrong, the edifice we’ve built will collapse.”

Finally, he emphasized the plan of PASOK-KINAL which, as he said, “has society in front, and is committed to the present and the future of Greece, not for what it is, but for all that it can do”.
