The Parliamentary Group of New Left.

In their text that they gave for publication in the Media it says:

“The establishment of the “New Left” Parliamentary Group is the first step of a new political cycle. The first messages are more than encouraging and our great responsibility is how we will respond to the expectations and demands of leftist and progressive citizens for a substantial new beginning: a new beginning both in the content of politics and in the way politics is organized. Today we have a task. Let’s move on to the next step. In other words, the movements that will pave the way for the formation of a political party the combination of which will be ready for the election for the European Parliament in June 2024. Our aim is to have decisively contributed to the formation of a new open, united, left-wing, progressive and ecological ballot that will make a difference. This is what we are fighting for and we will do it. Together.

Extroversion

We care about society. The society that has become disillusioned and privatized, the society that has tired and resented before us – but sometimes with us – the society that is nevertheless interested in the common issues of the future and looks with interest at our enterprise, even if we have not convinced it. These are the people we address, even if it seems easier to talk only to them and those we were used to. The goal is not to piece together fragments of the split, nor to reproduce the questions or dividing lines we left behind. From extroversion and access to the new world, not exclusively based on age, the success of the project will be judged at the top and at the base. We listen to society, we really listen to what it wants to say even if it doesn’t say it the way we want it to or the way we would say it.

Greek society has demands. Her voice even if it is simple desperation means something. We must listen to this and stand with absolute sincerity and seriousness: believing what we say and saying what we believe. With the aim of convincing. No exaggerated assurances. This is where the role of our values is ultimately judged: collectivity, equality, democracy and solidarity. Let’s answer the big question: the political one through this. Only this can guarantee that we will be heard. Without extroversion, without contact with those who are beyond our lines, our venture cannot breathe and grow.

And extroversion translates into action. In organizing tours, meetings, discussions and open assemblies both locally and thematically during this first critical period. Not with the content of what happened in general and vaguely, but with the first concern of organizing the dialogue with the living social dynamics that are around us.

Renewal

We are in a transitional period. This is clear both in the general political characteristics of the period, as reflected in the overall crisis of the left and the wider progressive space, and in the specific characteristics of the new venture. Our identity is not fixed but is constructed on the fly. Where he will move, who he will take and who he will leave, is not a product of luck or misfortune but of specific goals. Our goal is clear: first of all, we want a meaningful relationship with citizens and social forces of the New Left, a meaningful relationship with the most restless and creative tendencies of Greek society. Those that are inspired by the basic starting points we have set since the founding moment of our formation: climate justice, social justice, restarting Democracy. We do not want the welding of any fragments of the past and we are not only addressing the people who left SYRIZA-PS after the recent elections. We want the New Left to contribute to the organization of dialogue with movements of political ecology, civil society, anti-discrimination movements, labor initiatives and movements on specific issues, the contemporary landscape of radical youth currents.

Renewal is the logical consequence of extroversion. And in this effort we want to create the necessary space for those who until yesterday thought that central politics did not concern them, the scientific potential that felt that their proposals were left in the drawers, the movements that could not find channels to transform their requests into a modern and open political program for the future of the country. In every region, in every city, in every village there are ventures and dynamics that interest us. Not just as listeners of our own political proposal, but as active participants in its formation.

And renewal requires relationships and bonds of trust. To proceed at every geographical level in recording and communicating, in the open invitation, without ideological blinders, to the people we would like to have with us in our new venture.

Self-effort

To be able to implement the above, a policy from below is needed. In this phase, democratic participation and self-organization are needed. Initiatives and campaigns organized at the local level: to use our creativity in thinking about how general issues intertwine with specific disputes in each social space. It is necessary with different organizing bodies to make the political discourse that we are struggling to build be felt: as a form and as a content. To act ourselves to show that the new is not only new in name but is really different, therefore, as such, really new for the way politics is organized.

With interventions, actions, discussions that will not have the stress of party registration but of essential contact with society. Through the regeneration of local bodies, unions, chambers, local movements and institutional representations. It is important to recover a living relationship of trust with society, with a specific political content and creating space for every citizen who wants to contribute to this effort. With seriousness and with radicalism.

We want to consolidate the stubbornness, militancy and creativity that sustain us today, grounding them in the difficult realities of our times for the social majority. This is the point.”
