The offices of the Municipal Police of Athens were visited today by the newly elected mayor of Athens Haris Doukas and had a meeting with the director of the Directorate, the heads of the departments and the representatives of the employees.
Mr. Doukas was informed about the problems and deficiencies that exist in human resources and logistical infrastructure, while he presented the plan of the new municipal Authority for a safe and accessible Athens for all citizens.
“We want to break the feeling of abandonment, for citizens to feel safe again. This is a fundamental pillar for the well-being and quality of life of the Athenians,” he said, among other things, and added: “In this effort, our officers in the Municipal Police must be at the forefront. The municipal policeman will be the man of the municipality in every neighborhood, always next to the citizen.”
Mr. Doukas announced strict controls on illegal parking, compliance with the scheduled loading and unloading times and taking measures to limit noise pollution. It was also committed to the full implementation of the laws and regulations applicable to table seats and to the creation of an electronic license file accessible to every citizen.
Today’s meeting was attended by the new deputy mayor of the Municipal Police and public spaces, Thomas Georgiadis, and the new general secretary of the municipality, Vassilis Bokos.
EDE for reporting sexual harassment
On the order of the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, the immediate holding of a Sworn Administrative Examination was ordered today, in order to investigate a complaint concerning an incident of sexual harassment by municipal police officers.
Mr. Doukas also requested the EDE during his visit to the Directorate of the Municipal Police.
