“OPEKEPE as it operates today does not represent us. It is not a correct picture” the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis clarified from the Parliament and emphasized that “the president of the Organization must leave yesterday”.

Mr. Avgenakis, after recalling that he had already asked for the resignation of the president of OPEKEPE, declared that he was determined to reform OPEKEPE and organize it into a modern organization that would respond to the demands of the European Commission, as our country has a duty to distribute transparently the Community aid.

In the context of his answers to the parliamentary representatives of the parties, after his speech on the Budget, Lefteris Avgenakis characteristically said:

The president of OPEKEPE must leave yesterday. That is why I asked for his resignation. And the president and some administrative staff, leftists by the way, have a name. And to have a proper organization and modern operation, which will also respond to the suggestions of the Community – because we are obliged – and determined to do so and indeed very immediately. Because OPEKEPE manages 2.8 billion euros, not one, not two million. We are clear and we will put order, we don’t hide behind our finger. There will be transparency. There will be consistency in the distribution of social benefits».
