Indirect appeal to the American star, Taylor Swift, but also to other young artists, to encourage young Europeans to vote in the European electionsthe Vice-President of the Commission for the Promotion of the European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, addressed today from Brussels.

“No one can mobilize the youth better than the young people themselves,” the vice-president of the Commission said at a press conference.

Speaking about the upcoming European elections and the necessary “voice” of young people that must be heard for the future of Europe, Margaritis Schinas clearly admitted that “young people are the ones who can encourage young people to participate more in the elections, much more by the Commissioners in a press room’.

“For example, Taylor Swift,” M. Schoinas continued with a smile. He recalled, in fact, that last September the American singer invited hundreds of millions of her followers on social networks to register to vote in the US elections in the fall of 2024 and immediately the next day about 35,000 new Americans had already been added to the electoral rolls.

Taylor Swift is set to travel to Europe in May as part of her world tour, with a concert in Paris on May 9 – ‘Europe Day’, remarked M. Schinas, adding: “I really hope we will do the same for young Europeans, I really hope someone in her media team is watching this conference and conveys our request to her.”

Over 400 million European citizens are invited to the polls from 6 to 9 June in the 27 EU countries to renew the European Parliament. The participation rate in the May 2019 elections was higher, but only at 51% on average in the EU.
