With his Minister of Labor Qatar, Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri, Deputy Foreign Minister Lolwah Al Khater, and Brigadier General Abdulaziz bin Faisal Al Thani, Director General of the Ministry of Interior, met with the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarakisduring his visit to Doha.
According to a relevant announcement of the Greek ministry, Mr. Mitarakis’s talks focused on the challenges that Greece faces in managing immigration as a front-line country. Mr. Mitarakis also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, given Qatar’s involvement in humanitarian operations to free Afghans and civilians from other Afghan countries. The two sides agreed on the need to coordinate international efforts to stabilize the situation in the country.
The Minister of Immigration and Asylum reiterated Greece’s support for Qatar’s efforts to join the visa waiver system for the Schengen area.
Finally, the Qatari authorities invited Mr. Mitarakis to participate in the annual Doha Forum, which will take place on March 26-27, 2022.
