It met under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakistoday, the Governmental Council of National Security (KYSEA) with the object of selecting a new Chief of the Hellenic Police and a new Chief of the Fire Brigade.

By decision of KYSEA, its new Chief Greek Police Major General Dimitrios Mallios was chosenwho is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

KYSEA awarded Lazaros Mavropoulos the rank of General of the Hellenic Police and the title of Honorary Chief of the Corps.

Chrysochoidis: Deep cut with selections from the new generation

Upon his departure from the Maximos Palace, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, asked about the crises, spoke about “deep cut with selections from the new generation of the Greek Police”.

Resume of a new Fire Chief

The Chief of the Fire Department Lieutenant General Theodoros Vagias of Constantinewas born in Militsa, Messinia in 1967, is married and the father of two children.

He joined the Fire Brigade in 1991 and in 1999 he graduated from the Officer School of the Fire Academy with the rank of Fire Arrester.

In 2013 he graduated from the School of Training and Post-Training of Officers of the Fire Academy.

During his tenure he has served as Commander of the National Coordination Center for Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK), as Commander of the Athens Fire Services, as Commander of the Corinth Fire Service, as Director of the Directorate of Technical Support and Infrastructure of the Fire Brigade Headquarters, in the Fire Service of Sparta, in Services of Athens and Piraeus and as an instructor at the School of Fire Fighters.

In 2024 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General assuming the duties of Chief of the Fire Department.

He has managed and coordinated numerous firefighting operations to deal with natural and man-made disasters.

During his professional career promoted to all grades of senior officer by choicereceived moral awards, while he was honored with many medals, decorations and commemorations, among others, the highest Brigade of Honor, the highest Brigade of the Phoenix, Firefighter Merit 1st Class, Star of Merit and Honor and Merit and Honor 1st Class.

Kikilias for new fire chief: He managed unprecedented crises
