In a relaxed atmosphere and with accuracy as the main topic of discussion, the first day of the SYRIZA parliamentary group meeting in Spetses was completed.

Today, Saturday, the SYRIZA MPs crossed the threshold of Stefanos Kasselakis’ house shortly before 10 am, despite the fact that, based on the schedule, the K.O.’s work was expected to start at 8.15 am. With the exception of a light two-hour lunch at noon, they will finish in the evening at 20.30.

Speaking to the SKAI envoy in Spetses, Despoina Vlepakis, the retired admiral and SYRIZA MP, Evangelos Apostolakis he mentioned about the meeting that the deputies talk and get to know each other better and added that they remain united. “We are carving out the policy with which the party will continue to move,” said Mr. Apostolakis.

The MPs’ PowerPoints have caught fire, with today’s debate focusing on the presentation of the responsible department head for the economy, Nikos Pappas, as well as Christos Giannoulis on development issues. The SYRIZA parliamentary representative will refer to the economic policy of the ND, how it does not respond to the major crises (accuracy, climate and demographic), noting that the government interventions are moving along the lines of implementing the Pissarides plan to clean up the market and society. He is expected to emphasize that “we are 32 out of 36 in growth, we pay 7 billion more in VAT from 2021, we lose 40 billion from the sale of bank shares. We propose an increase in wages, a reduction in VAT, a progressive tax rate for individuals and legal entities.” Nikos Pappas will point out that “big problems require progressive answers. To address accuracy and debt, for transparency and fairness in funding, for the defense of public property.”

At the same time, according to information published by “KATHIMERINI” since Friday, Katerina Notopoulou will focus on the “black book” of government policy on welfare issues, vulnerable social groups, the housing crisis, the increase in violence among minors and the demographic. Nina Kasimati will analyze the new European pact on immigration with the proposals of SYRIZA, while Giorgos Karameros, in the field of digital policy, will talk, among other things, about the need to create a new framework for cyber security that will not follow its logic suppression and monitoring.

Rena Dourou will refer to the eight questions she has already asked the government, which includes issues concerning Greek-Turkish relations and the ratification of the memorandums of cooperation with North Macedonia, none of which have been answered. The SYRIZA Foreign Minister cannot be excluded from upgrading some of her interventions in questions in order to provoke a debate in the Parliament with all parties. Vassilis Kokkalis will present a new law proposal for cooperatives and Simeon Kedikoglou will analyze new models and mechanisms proposed by the party for civil protection.

Yesterday’s meeting focused on accuracy where it is expected that there will be a related campaign from the party. There was a detailed presentation by Theodora Tzakri about the campaign that the party will launch regarding market appreciations with the president answering several questions. This was followed by Haris Mamoulakis who analyzed the proposals of SYRIZA on infrastructure and transport. He focused, according to information, on the solutions proposed by SYRIZA for the traffic problem of Attica, the relegation of the fixed-track means, as well as infrastructure issues that have to do mainly with Thessaly, flood protection projects and road construction.

Fireplace, food and singing

But apart from the work, yesterday’s meeting also had moments of relaxation for the MPs. After the presentations were finished, there was a buffet where it opened after 9.00 pm and included food even for the vegan MPs. The MPs had lunch next to the lit fireplace while there was also singing by Sokratis Famellos and Kalliopi Vetta. The deputies left after 12 midnight.
