The ruling party, through its press office, welcomes the election of Theodoros Roussopoulos to the said position
“New Democracy welcomes his election Theodoros RoussopoulosMember of Parliament B1 of the Northern Sector of Athens and former minister, in the position of the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe” the press office of the party states in a statement, stating that the election was unanimous.
It is also noted that 612 MPs from the 46 member countries voted, as well as from all political groups of the Council: Group of Socialist-Democrats and Greens (SOC), Group of the European People’s Party (EPP/CD), Group of European Conservatives & Democratic Alliance ( EC/DA), Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and Group of the United European Left (UEL).
“Theodoros Roussopoulos will be the first politician from Greece to hold the position of President of the Parliamentary Assembly to the oldest and most important European Organization for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, which was founded 75 years ago by great European leaders such as Winston Churchill, Konrad Adenauer, Paul Reynaud, Maurice Schumann, Altiero Spinelli, Raymond Aron, Anthony Eden and Francois Mitterrand.
The election of Mr. Roussopoulos is a great honor for our Party and our country, which has definitively left the era of crisis behind. We wish him success in his new duties.”
