The meeting did not discuss specific measures, but rather an overview of the government’s overall interventions for those affected
An extended meeting led by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, was held on Sunday afternoon at Megaros Maximos, during which the rural mobilizations were discussed.
According to sources, the meeting did not discuss specific measures, but rather an overview of the government’s overall interventions for those affected by all relevant ministries, and the message sent from the Maximos Palace is that the door of the Ministry of Rural Development is always open, while emphasizing that the government does not seek tension, but listens to the demands of the farmers.
The same sources note that the compensations are paid normally.
In response to the demands of the farmers, what is highlighted by the government is the government policy implemented since 2019 namely:
- the reduction of farmers’ taxation and the establishment of a new tax scale for natural persons from 9% instead of 22%
- the repeal of the Katrougalou law by restoring the insurance contributions of farmers to insurance classes
- The activation of the tax on oil
- feed VAT reduction from 13% to 6%
- VAT reduction from 24% to 13% for the purchase of agricultural machinery
- abolition of tax aid
