The Special Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption, GJKKO, rejected the request of the elected mayor of Chimara Fredis Beleris to be sworn in before the municipal council, today January 29.

According to himara.gr, his lawyer emphasized that Beleris is deliberately not allowed to swear as the government has a special sympathy for the municipality of Himara like no other. He added that an appeal would be made to the Supreme Court.

We will appeal to the Supreme Court. It is a decision with elements of a fascist spirit. The first-instance ruling boosts the government’s efforts to declare a state of emergency in Himara. It’s not true. The court affirmed it without changing any part of that decision. The justification was not made known to us. We are at the end of the process, the same triad has taken the road to punish him and not get a special permit. They want the municipality of Himaras at all costs”said the lawyer.

In the Beleris case, several requests for him to be sworn in have been rejected. Initially his request was transferred from the Special Court to that of Durrës. After the two institutions declared incompetence to consider the request of Fredis Beleris, the Supreme Court decided that this decision should be taken by the GJKKO. The latter did not give Beleris permission to take the oath, a decision that was also confirmed today by the GJKKO Court of Appeal.
