The MEP of the ND and vice-president of the parliamentary group of the European People’s Party referred to the need to support the agricultural world and review the strategic objectives of green development. Vangelis Meimarakis, during the debate that took place earlier today Thursday in the Parliament, in the presence of the vice-president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schina.

“We said that the war is a very big issue, which we cannot pretend does not exist. That’s why we said, some of the green growth issues should be voted on now and run, and some should wait and some should stay as they are. It is not possible to ask 20% from the farmers in the fallow period. And it is no coincidence that inflation may be falling across Europe in all other goods except food”, said Vangelis Meimarakis.

“We must also tell the Greek people and in these European elections I would say that it’s not a casual vote, it’s a very important vote for the future”, said Mr. Meimarakis and added: “The agenda will again be a discussion on green growth and climate change – it does not stop there – it will clearly be immigration, since we have such problems, it will be the enlargement regarding the unanimity, it will clearly be the defense and the Euro army, because if you want to be an international player on the international stage you must have an army. You can’t not have it. It will also be the change in conditions that we have discussed through the Europe Conference – and in any case, I want to emphasize that we have two very large strategic goals. One is Europe’s autonomy in energy and the second is Europe’s autonomy in food. So if we want Europe’s self-sufficiency in food, in a geopolitical situation, which has uncertainty, we owe everything that we have been saying lately about green growth, to re-examine them and see how we can help the agricultural world to have the agricultural production and ensure us with the new generation the strategic goal of food self-sufficiency in Europe as a whole”.
