The bill of the Minister of State Akis Skertsou “Equality in civil marriage, amendment of the Civil Code and other provisions” was submitted to the Parliament on Thursday night, which was in a stage of public consultation until January 31.

As stated in the explanatory statement, this law aims to ensure the principle of equality, through the extension of the possibility of marriage to persons of the same sex and to strengthen protection against discrimination, in the direction of the implementation of the National Strategy for the Equality of LGBTQI .

The objects of this law are: a) the amendment of the Civil Code, in order to recognize the possibility of same-sex marriage, b) the necessary interventions in labor legislation to protect same-sex spouses and parents, c) the expansion of protection from discrimination and d) the more specific regulation of relations with foreign elements.
