A think tank on research issues at public universities was announced on Monday morning by the president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kasselakis, simultaneously releasing the names and biographies of those who will make it up.
In particular, in his post, Mr. Kasselakis states:
A necessary supplement to Public Education, Research in Public Universities.
I present to you the distinguished scientists that I will have the honor of advising me on Research matters, so that we can build a government program that will promote Research and Technology.
We want this Greece.
A country that looks to tomorrow.

Detailed names of those participating in the Think tank for the research:
– Eleni Hatzichristou: Astrophysicist, holder of a master’s degree from the Paris Observatory and a doctorate from Leiden University. He has worked for a number of years at: Yale University, Hubble Space Telescope Institute, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, etc. Since 2019, he has been working at the European Research Council in Brussels.
– Haris Anastopoulos: Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Patras. His PhD thesis was supported at Imperial College. He was a scientific advisor to NASA’s award-winning Deep Space Quantum Link program.
– George Plumbidis: Professor of Population Health and Statistics at UCL. He was the first research director of CLS, worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of Cambridge.
– Manolis Mikrakis: Assistant Professor at the School of Architectural Engineering at NTUA. He studied archeology and art history at the University of Athens and received a PhD from the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He has received grants and research grants from the German State and the Institute of Aegean Prehistory of Philadelphia, USA.
– Dimitris Pinotsis: Theoretical neuroscientist with a PhD in Mathematics and an MSc in Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge. He worked at UCL and MIT. He is Associate Professor at City-University of London and Research Associate at MIT’s Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences.
– Nikolaos Markatos: Former rector of the National Technical University of Athens, former Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and current professor emeritus of the School of Chemical Engineering of NTUA and Visiting Professor at the University of Texas. He was Visiting and Bye-Fellow in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge and Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey.
– Alexandros Tsombanidis: He holds a PhD in Psychiatry from Peterhouse College, University of Cambridge. He is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Cambridge. He holds the International prize for the best PhD thesis in autism, INSAR, as well as the Charles Slater Award from the University of Cambridge
– George Chalkiadakis: PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. He is an Associate Professor at the Technical University of Crete. With honors and awards in a series of international conferences and competitions.
