A regular at Salgueiro parades since the 1990s, Edmundo tried to avoid the subject of football when he visited Sapucaí on the first day of the Rio de Janeiro samba school parades, but it didn’t work.
The former striker from clubs such as Palmeiras and Vasco, and now a football commentator, with stints at Band and Fox Sports (2012-2022), gave his opinion on former player Daniel Alves, who is undergoing trial in Spain on charges of sexual violence and rape.
“I have been following the entire case and I don’t have a formed opinion. Only the two people involved in the situation can say what really happened,” said Edmundo.
“It’s a shame, he was a great professional. He threw his life away because of a reckless attitude,” said Edmundo, who played in the 1998 World Cup for the Brazilian team.
Speaking about the national team, Edmundo minimized the disqualification of the Brazilian men’s football team from the Paris Olympic Games, which takes place in July.
“In 1992, I didn’t go to the Olympics that year because Brazil was disqualified from the pre-Olympics. That happens. The best doesn’t always prevail”, he said.
