SYRIZA-PS criticizes the Minister of the Interior, Niki Kerameos, on the occasion of her letter to the Greek Expatriates regarding the postal vote.

In a statement, SYRIZA-PS states that the letter from the Minister of the Interior “constitutes a monument to the political instrumentalization of Greeks abroad” and explains: “In particular, the letter states that ‘fifty years after the restoration of democracy in our country, the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is proceeding with a measure which broadens and deepens our Democracy’. This report goes beyond the limits of political audacity, as evidenced by the recent resolution of the European Parliament on the rule of law in Greece.”

He then refers to the position of SYRIZA-PS, clarifying that “from the first moment it has been in favor of the vote of the Greek Expatriates with the establishment of regions abroad for the more effective representation of our Homogeneity, as well as the reservation of the postal vote for all Greek citizens, inside and outside Greece”.

In closing, he calls on the government “to stop the nationally damaging attempt to hijack the Union. If the government is really interested in better serving Greek expatriates, let it simplify the procedures and strengthen our consular authorities, instead of trying to turn the vote of Greeks abroad into a matter of party exploitation”.
