“The congress decided, and we must all respect it, that elections for the president should not be held, despite the fact that it also made a sad image of the congress” said Christos Spirtzis
The SYRIZA executive commented on what has been happening in the last few days in SYRIZA, Christos Spirtzis speaking on Tuesday morning to SKAI and the “Today” show.
“The conference decided, and we must all respect it, that there should be no elections for the president, despite the fact that it also made a sad image of the conference” said Christos Spirtzis and added that “every day both the party and all of us and the president of the party is judged”.
Mr. Spirtzis was asked about the whether the party will go to new elections in the event of a heavy electoral defeat in the European elections, he characteristically stated “SYRIZA is not Far West”. As he said, “The competent bodies will meet and he will assess the result and see what he will do.”
At the same time, he ruled out a new split in the party unless, as he said, other things are done that cross the lines. “I think we’ll go together.”
Regarding the letter of Alexis Tsipras shortly before the party congress, Mr. Spirtzis stated that Mr. Tsipras should have sent the letter. “He is the man who built the party, everyone who didn’t come to the conference should be concerned and reflect on why he didn’t come,” he concluded.
