From January 1 to December 31, 2023, Government systems either provided digital services to citizens, or “talked to each other” 1,453,680,496 times
New big increase against 18.5% in relation to 2022 recorded the digital transactions of citizens with the State for 2023.
Specifically, according to the data of the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance of the Ministry of Digital Governance, from January 1 to December 31 of last year, State systems either provided digital services to citizens, or “talked to each other” 1,453,680,496 times, recording an increase of 226 million.
It is recalled that digital transactions add up to:
- Digital services, i.e. the identification of citizens in an information system using TaxisNet codes or web banking
- Interoperability, that is, the exchange of information between services and State registers, without any other action on the part of the citizen other than the granting of his consent.
It is noted that from 2022 digital “financial” transactions will also be included in digital transactions. These are cases where the citizen has access to digital services in the financial sector outside of the oAuth 2.0 standard (tax, customs, related etc.). The specific transactions are now recorded after the infrastructure and computing tools of the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance have been upgraded.
For the first time, digital transactions in 2023 approach 1.5 billion.
The 2022 digital transactions had risen to 1.227 billion.
Digital transactions in detail by year: 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023
Total Digital Transactions 8,780,915 34,688,300 94,688,363 566,962,980 1,227,477,424 1,453,680,496
The Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou said: “The increase in digital transactions with the Government proves that citizens are embracing the digital services we design and implement at the Ministry of Digital Governance. Every day we strengthen Greece’s digital leap with a two-way benefit for citizens and the Public Administration. Our goal is to make everyday life friendlier for everyone with less bureaucracy, to save resources and for the state to regain the trust of citizens.
The General Secretary of Information Systems and Digital Governance Demosthenes Anagnostopoulos stated: “For another year we have a significant increase in digital transactions with the State, with a great benefit for the digital transformation of the country, and therefore saving time, costs and energy for citizens and saving resources for the Administration. We are now approaching 1.5 billion transactions, implementing the strategy of the Ministry of Digital Governance, we have already made and will continue to make every aspect of the interaction of citizens and businesses with the State easier”
