The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubasin a speech on Wednesday night, in Atalanti at an event of the KKE’s Lokrida Cooperatives, he referred to the “diverse, hopeful, coordinated joint struggles of the working class, subsistence farmers, freelancers, youth and pensioners” and called for the preservation of this unity as the “apple of the eye” and in its expansion.

“We are here, with our forces, our Organizations, with Central Committee officials, with me personally as General Secretary at every turn of your struggles. Because your struggles are our struggles too. And so we promise to continue,” he added.

“Lokrida is one of the most characteristic examples that our country has, of who pays the consequences of the directions of the European Union, of the policies that they implemented or defend in one way or another, all the other parties, based on profit of the business groups and not the needs of the employees” said D. Koutsoubas, noting, then, “it is emblematic in this respect of course the case of LARCO. And here we are talking about a crime that has a history.”

He devoted a large part of his speech to what preceded and to the current developments concerning LARCO, noting that “today the reopening of LARCO depends, in essence, on the result of the fight between the capital’s departments, which have put targeting her wealth. The competitions took place, exactly as the EU plan provided for, with which all the parties in the European Parliament and the Parliament have agreed, except for the KKE”.

“We call on the government to respond here and now with seriousness. Has it ensured the reopening and development of LARCO?” he said, stressing that “we will not allow Locris to languish, to drown in unemployment. The renewal of the workers’ contracts on March 31, the safeguarding of jobs in any case, the reopening of LARCO, is a red line.”

The workers of LARCO, the people of Locris, have not yet said their last word. They are not alone. They have the entire working class of the country as an ally. This fight will go until the LARCO chimney smokes again and the KKE will be by their side today and tomorrow and always”, emphasized D. Koutsoubas.

He said that “the root of the problems and for the workers in the other industries and businesses in Locrida it is the policy of the government and of all governments and parties that defend the EU.”

He also said that the consequences of the policy of the EU and the Greek governments on the people of the region are evident in the agricultural production, in the freelancers, in all the issues that concern the lives of the workers and the popular strata as a whole.

“After all, all of them together, that is, the popular majority, experience the numerous problems of everyday life, for which all the governments and all the parties that have supported the policy of cost-benefit and saving resources are complicit, either in the parliament or in the European Parliament or in the municipalities and regions” he added.

He called for the development of assertive struggles for all issues that concern the lives of workers and people of the region, noting that “the KKE is by your side, it proposes solutions and invites you to a joint struggle. Together we will not allow this place to wither.”

“As together we will not allow the crime in Tempe to be forgottenbecause this area also mourned and mourns victims” he added, repeating the promise of the KKE that “we will do everything in our power to not forget this crime” in aspects of which, based on the Conclusion he submitted the KKE to the Commission of Inquiry, was subsequently reported.

D. Koutsoubas emphasized that “along with the development of the struggles, political cooperation with the KKE is required to open the way to the radical overthrow of this system, of this power. The road to the construction of socialism, the power of the working class and its allies, the peasantry, the current small and medium social strata”.

He referred, in detail, to the combined possibilities that can be opened up for Lokris and for the whole country “in an authority that will be guided by meeting the needs of the many”, noting that “today the country’s enormous productive potential is not being used to satisfy of the people’s needs because the main obstacle is the policies of governments, bourgeois parties and the EU that defend capitalist profit”.

“Therefore, a condition for the pro-popular exploitation of wealth-producing sources, is a radically different path of development. By workers’ power, which will eradicate capitalist profit, whether private or state monopoly, as a motivation of production. It will socialize all the concentrated means of production and, freed from the imperialist associations, under the scientific central planning of the economy, it will develop the productive forces with the criteria of popular well-being” he underlined, briefly presenting the main axes of the KKE’s proposal for the pro-popular development of the region, in the context of the corresponding development of the whole country.

Based on this “compass”, as he characteristically said, he called for an escalation of the struggles and cooperation with the KKE in all battles, while he described the June 9 European elections as a “first class opportunity” to strengthen this cooperation.

“It’s an opportunity for the people and the youth to slap the EU hard and the parties that defend it, deceiving the people,” he said, recalling that the KKE “said the truth about the EU in a timely manner” and adding:

“With the KKE ballot, our people can express their disapproval and their opposition and their desire for the real Europe of the peoples.”

He stated that “EU policy is co-shaped and implemented by the ND, PASOK and SYRIZA governments” and added that “the strengthening of the KKE in the European elections will strengthen the hopeful current of questioning the dominant urban policy that became distinct in the previous electoral battles, it will give impetus to every labor-popular struggle and claim, in which the KKE leads with all its strength. That is, in the only real opposition to the ND government”.

“With a much stronger KKE for a pan-European counterattack! We are breaking the bonds of the EU!

For Greece and the Europe of Socialism, the Europe of workers, farmers, peoples! In the EU of today’s brutality, we send the appropriate message: Stronger KKE – more massive counter-attack struggles for the people’s right!” emphasized D. Koutsoubas, concluding his speech.
