A new vote of confidence in the Greek economy and its prospects from the authoritative Economist review: Greece records the greatest improvement in the business environment among 82 countries worldwide, according to the business environment index of the Economist Intelligence Unit – EIU ) for the period 2024-28.
Greece is now ranked 34th internationally, having jumped 28 places from 62nd place during 2014-18.
The Economist attributes this improvement “to the impact of the policies of the business-friendly government of the New Republic, which is in its second term and has already carried out reforms, reduced taxes and strengthened business confidence” as it typically states.
The Economist points out in its analysis that, as historically proven, an improvement in the business environment index in a country leads to an increase in GDP per capita, total investment and Foreign Direct Investment for the next 5 years. That is why, after all, and he mentions that in Greece and the other countries with the greatest improvement in the business environment, such as Argentina and India, “we expect the most important improvements at the policy level, investments in infrastructure or the increase in business opportunities”.
The Economist Business Environment Index captures the attractiveness of the business environment in 82 countries around the world, examining 91 indicators in 11 different categories: political environment, macroeconomic environment, market opportunities, policy towards free enterprise and competition, policy towards foreign investment, foreign trade and exchange controls, taxes, economy, labor market, infrastructure and technological readiness.
